the senate. right now they have 45 seats. the democrats at 53. nbc news senior political editor mark murray joins me to talk more about this. mark, this puts a number of states in play now. we talk about west virginia after jay rockefeller's retirement and possibly south dakota, massachusetts as well. how possible is it for the gop to pick up six seats in 2014? >> it is possible. but it will be difficult. democrats are playing defense right now, thomas, given these retirements. but also just the terrain that the 2014 senate map will be on. there are democrats up for re-election in arkansas, alaska, louisiana. and now you end up having that open seat in west virginia. all of those four states haven't been hospitable territory for democrats in national elections, particularly presidential ones. but this is an eternity in politics. when november 2014 rolls around. there's a very long time. just two years ago no one thought democrats would be able to pick up senate seats at this point two years ago. at this point four years ago no one thought republicans would be having the very big november 20

everybody should watch first and foremost because of the unbelievable performances. bill murray is spectacular as fdr. he's almost unrecognizable as a comedian we've loved for decades. there's one little thing about this movie though. he was in a relationship with his distant cousin and that's what the movie kind of touches on. so it gets pretty crazy, and i was not prepared to see the great fdr in certain compromising positions. that's really throwing some people off. >> is it bill murray playing fdr, or is it a real fdr-like role? >> i think he's amazing. i think that he re-creates fdr in a time when daniel day-lewis is getting so many accolades for "lincoln." we should be talking about bill murray, as well. he's extraordinary. >> high praise. so what's it getting on the tomato meeter? >> well, i personally loved this movie because it took larger than live figures and made them very normal and accessible. critics aren't agreeing with me. it's 40% rotten right now. >> oh, that's not very good. >> i know, too shock i guess. >> who do you predict will be the best actor and best a

sure we meet compelling human need and at the same time get value for our dollar. senator patty murray chairs the subcommittee that funds housing and transportation, again, to make sure that we're rebuilding homes and livelihoods. senator feinstein on the army corps of engineers, again, while they've been doing a heroic job getting the -- keeping the mississippi river open, they want to make sure the shoreline of new york and new jersey and maryland is open for business as well. i could name all of them but those three have done an outstanding job. and i particularly want to acknowledge the help of my colleagues from new york and new jersey. senator schumer has led the way, particularly when there was this difficult time with senator inouye's illness to move this bill. but senator gillibrand, menendez and lautenberg have really been outstanding. this is about colleagues, and i want to thank our colleagues on the other side of the aisle who helped us. i know that -- i really would now like to yield the floor to senator landrieu, who has done such a great job through her subcommittee and
